Leppävaara Campus will be closed from March 4th – Teaching and other operations will move to Metropolia´s other campuses. Temporary facilities for ICT and Industrial Management degree programmes are negotiated with Nokia in Espoo.

Metropolia’s Board of Directors has approved the temporary relocation plans of Leppävaara Campus on 25 February 2019. Leppävaara Campus will be closed and all operations there will end by March 4th 2019. The operations of the Campus will be relocated immediately to other Metropolia Campuses in Arabia, Myllypuro and Myyrmäki. ICT and Industrial Management are the only degree programmes that will require external temporary facilities.

The Board of Directors mandated Metropolia’s management to initiate negotiations with Nokia Corporations about temporary facilities in Karaportti 2, Espoo. The facilities are very suitable for teaching, in good condition and they can be quickly put into operation. Karaportti 2 is located three kilometers west from Leppävaara Campus.

“Facilities of Karaportti would provide Metropolia an innovative learning environment. The facilities are located next to Nokia´s head office and are easy to reach by public transport. The location would provide an opportunity for deeper cooperation in several areas with Nokia Corporations. The Karaportti area is developing and enables a good ecosystem for Metropolia. This solution would also be cost-effective”, says Metropolia’s  Deputy CEO Simo Mustila.

“We are delighted to be able to offer these temporary facilities to Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Metropolia would make a perfect tenant for Nokia’s Campus in Espoo. Our Campus offers excellent settings for studying and interactions between professionals and students,” says Area Manager Finland South Petra Penttonen, from Nokia.

Metropolia´s Board of Directors decided on February 21st on the closing of the Leppävaara campus when City of Espoo – the owner of the property – notified Metropolia about the poor state of the Campus building on 14th of February.
