Student representatives are ordinary students who have been chosen by student union METKA to represent students’ viewpoints and needs in the decision-making processes at Metropolia UAS. Student representatives are chosen usually for one-year period in open search that takes place in autumn. The supplementary search is opened whenever there are open positions to be filled. Student representatives are an important part of METKA’s work for students’ benefit. They represent students’ viewpoints in the Metropolia’s decision-making. There are 90 student representative positions in total:
- Metropolia LLC board of directors (1 person)
- Board of Directors (4 persons, practically always METKA’s chairpersons)
- Legal Protection Committee (1 member, 2 deputy members)
- Board of Examiners (1 member, 1 deputy member)
- Advisory Councils of study programmes 43 pcs (72 positions in total)
- Campus groups (Every campus has its own, representatives are practically always METKA board members)
In addition, METKA, together with other student unions, appoints representatives:
- Hoas (Foundation for student housing in the Helsinki region) Board. In the 2023-2024 term, we have appointed lawyer Janne Hälinen and Vantaa municipal councilor and Metropolia student Matilda Stirkkinen to the board of directors.
- Erica Alaluusua (full member) and Juuli Ärttö (vice member) have been appointed to Hoas tenants’ co-operation body.
- All university of applied sciences students are represented by SAMOK’s social policy advisor Ninni Kuparinen on the board of Trustees of the Finnish Student Health Service FSHS (YTHS).
- In the The FSHS Council, eight members are from student unions of different universities of applied sciences or SAMOK.
- UAS students are also represented by METKA’s specialist of Advocacy and Communications Mari Purhonen in the Southern Finland’s Management Group.
