The application for METKA’s Board of Directors for 2021 will begin on Friday, October 23. and ends by the meeting of the Representative Council on Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 5 pm. Get involved in building a student union, influencing student issues, and developing our Metropolia student community in an even better direction!

Duties of the Board of Directors

The Board manages the daily activities of the student union together with the employees on all of Metropolia’s campuses. The Board of the Student Union is the Labor Board, that is why the Board of Directors is a Full-Time Board and a fee is paid for it.

When applying, it is worth noting that completing studies at the same time as working in the Board of the Directors of METKA –  is challenging in terms of schedules and workload. It is proposed that the Board of Directors be paid a fee for working on the Board as follows: Chairperson 950 € / month * 12 months, Deputy Chairman 750 € / month * 11 months, Board members 650 € / month * 11 months. The amount of the fee and the number of payment months are decided at the constitutive meeting of the Representative Council.

In addition to managing the day-to-day work and responsibilities of the responsibility sectors, the Board carries out long-term student advocacy, represents the student union members, organizations and external stakeholders, and is responsible for implementing the action plan for the year. The Board meets approximately once a week during the semesters at the Student Union Office or possibly remotely. In addition, the board attends weekly meetings with staff once a week. Board work is generally done during office hours on weekdays.

Composition of the Board

The Board consists of the Chairperson, the Vice Chairperson and the members of the Board. The Board of Representatives determines the size of the Board of Directors annually in connection with its election. At the same time, the Representative Council, which is METKA’s highest decision-making body, decides on the amount of the Board’s remuneration and the number of remuneration months to be paid.

The Student Union has sectors of activity from tutoring to education policy and communication through international affairs to social policy. Each board member has one or more sectors for which they are responsible. The members of the Board have experts to support their work. Despite the responsibility sectors, much of the board’s work is done together!

All applicants are required to have good speaking and written proficiency in Finnish (mother tongue or B level). We also benefit from the speaking and written skills of English!
