Municipal and regional elections are now over. SDP won the elections in Finland in both the municipal and county elections. For the first time, the municipal and county elections were held simultaneously. Voter turnout in Finland was 54.2% in the municipal elections and 51.7% in the county elections. Precise statistics on turnout by age group are not yet available, but young people are consistently under-represented in elections.
METKA meets the City of Vantaa’s leadership twice a year, together with the Student Union Laureamko. In the future, METKA hopes for similar cooperation with other Metropolia campus cities, Helsinki and Espoo.
Issues of particular importance to students (and METKA) that are decided in the municipal and county councils are public transport and especially its price, the student housing stock and its zoning in different areas of the city, and health care, which is not covered by the FSHS.
