METKA gets students moving not only through Zone Sports Services, but also through many other means! METKA has had two physical activity projects, the results of which can still be enjoyed on campus. In addition, METKA is a member of the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) and through OLL, physical activity advocacy is carried out on a national level.
Zone Sports Services
Zone – The Sports Services of Universities of Applied Sciences are the joint sports services of Haaga-Helia and Metropolia, which started their operations on 16.1.2017. The task of the sports services is to get the university community moving and to increase the everyday activity of the universities.
The Zone sports services offer group exercise with a sports pass, ranging from light, body-friendly exercise to strenuous, pulse-pounding exercise. You can also book badminton and gym sessions, as well as sport halls for independent exercise. The Zone pass is included in your METKA membership.
The pass also gives you access to Yogobe’s video training service. Yogobe allows you to work out, do yoga and meditate, wherever you want, whenever you want. All you need is an internet connection and a small space to move around. With over 2,000 videos on the site, you can practise exercises such as pilates, different forms of yoga, mobility exercises, hand walking, breathing and relaxation.
Sports Tutoring
METKA promotes physical activity among students by training sports tutors. Through METKA, tutors can organise low-threshold events for their groups and exchange students to get active and spend time together. Sports tutoring is part of other tutoring activities and METKA does not currently train sports tutors alone.
Sports Equipment on Campuses
All four campuses also have sports equipment. This is intended to reduce the inequality between the campuses, as gyms and sports halls are only available in Myllypuro and Myyrmäki.
You can borrow sports equipment from the library on each campus with a library card. You’ll find things like Mölkky and walking sticks – it doesn’t get much easier than that!
In autumn 2024, an iWall was opened on the Karamalmi campus. The wall is located in room E570. iWall is a great way to refresh your brain with a little movement between lectures, for example.
Lotus, a yoga space on the Arabia campus. The space is located in the corner next to room AR430. The yoga space does not have a separate space code. The yoga room has the most common equipment for yoga and body care, for example during a day of studying.
The Myllypuro campus also has a wellbeing space funded by the MyActiveCampus project. The space has equipment for body care and, for example, an aerial yoga mat.
In addition, all campuses have a ping-pong table, subsoccer, office bike stools, a walking desk and other equipment. Student lounges also have activating equipment, for example, Myllypuro has wall bars.

Finnish Student Sports Federation
METKA and Zone jointly influence national student mobility events, thus contributing to student advocacy. The cooperation with the Student Sports Federation is close and provides an opportunity to influence the well-being of students. The Student Sports Federation is an association founded in 1924 with the aim of ensuring that all students move sufficiently for their health. The Federation also supports student sports and is involved in student sports competitions such as the SELL Games and the National Student Championships.
