METKA – the Student Union of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences – is seeking a skilled and motivated Executive Director to lead the Student Union’s operational activities and to develop advocacy, services, and a sense of community among students.
As Executive Director, you will be responsible for:
- managing and developing the student union’s operational activities
- leading staff and promoting workplace well-being
- financial management and budget monitoring in collaboration with the Board
- supporting the Board and conducting preparatory work with elected officials
- developing METKA’s operations and structures in collaboration with the Board and staff
- maintaining and developing cooperation with Metropolia and other stakeholders
We expect you to have:
- the desire and ability to develop METKA’s operations in line with the student union’s strategic goals, as well as the ability to drive initiatives forward
- experience in organizational activities or similar roles
- leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- a basic understanding of financial management
- a college degree
- fluency in Finnish and proficiency in English

We believe in the importance of work-life balance, which is why we offer flexible working hours, among other benefits. The salary for this position is based on the collective bargaining agreement for student unions at universities of applied sciences, as well as your personal skills and experience. We support your personal well-being by providing two hours per week to be used for well-being activities. You can use this time, for example, for exercise, self-development, or relaxation.
METKA will begin a 4-day workweek trial in September, during which employees’ total working hours will be 30 hours per week. The reduction in total working hours will not affect pay. The day off will generally be on Friday, unless otherwise agreed upon with the employer. During the trial, wellness hours will not be used during the workweek. The trial is scheduled to end in week 48. The Executive Director’s responsibilities include collecting feedback from staff and writing a final report on the trial.
You will primarily work at the Myllypuro campus, which offers an inspiring environment and the opportunity to network extensively with students and other stakeholders. We allow remote work so that you can work comfortably from your own environment and make the most of your creativity. The position will also require you to be present at other Metropolia University of Applied Sciences campuses, as well as some domestic travel.

The salary ranges from €2,800 to €3,150, depending on experience and education.
