METKA appoints several dozen student representatives each year. Application period for Advisory Councils of degree programmes and for Legal Protection Committee and Board of Examiners is now open!

Advisory Councils

Degree advisory councils are bodies covering one or more degree programmes, comprising Metropolia staff and student members as well as representatives from the world of work. The purpose of the advisory councils is to develop the degree programme so that it meets the needs of the world of work as effectively as possible. The councils also discuss changes to the curriculum. Only students in the relevant field may apply to join the advisory council.

You don’t need any previous experience to be a student representative. All you need is to be a student on the relevant degree programme! Advisory councils usually meet 1–4 times a year, so the role doesn’t take up much time. At its best, however, it can be a highly effective way to influence your degree programme and build networks for your future career. As a student representative, you do not need to commit to any other METKA activities, nor do you need to be a member of METKA. It is possible to apply for credits for your involvement. If you wish, you can also receive a certificate for the task.

Legal Protection Committee

The Legal Protection Committee handles e.g. appeals concerning the acceptance of students and the loss of the right to study. The term of the Legal Protection Committee is two (2) calendar years. We are now looking for one (1) full representative and two (2) deputy representatives for the years 2027-2028.

The Committee meets about once a month during academic year. The busiest times are typically at the beginning of semesters, when there are a number of student admissions cases to be dealt with and meetings can be lengthy. At other times, meetings may be cancelled if there are no new matters to be discussed. Spring semester’s meetings are held on Mondays.

As the working language of this Committee is Finnish, the applicant must be able to understand Finnish.

Board of Examiners

The Board of Examiners handles appeals concerning course performance and disciplinary cases such as misconducts. The term of the Board of Examiners is two (2) calendar years. We are now looking for one (1) full representative and one (1) deputy representative for the years 2027-2028.

The Board of Examiners meets about once a month during the academic year. Meetings are held on different days, but always during office hours and usually last a couple of hours. Each meeting typically has a few cases to discuss.

As the working language of this Board is Finnish, the applicant must be able to understand Finnish.
