Taking care of data protection is an integral part of the processing of personal data. The European Union (EU) has adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which defines the legal basis for the processing of personal data.
Personal data means all information relating to an identifiable natural person. The METKA student body handles personal data carefully, ethically and following legislation and internal guidelines.
Due to the activities of the student union has to process personal data in many different situations, for example:
- Membership and customer relationship management
- The implementation of member democracy
- For tutoring or trust activities
- Communication and information; and
- Organizing events
The list could keep on going, but there is always some reason to collect data.

METKA’s data protection principles
METKA pledges to adhere to the following values in the processing of personal data:
Legality, reasonableness, transparency
There is a legal basis for all the proceedings. Subjects will be notified of the processing of their data.
Data processing and collection
The data will only be processed for the purposes for which they were collected or for purposes compatible with them. Data is collected and processed only to the extent necessary.
Timeliness of data
Obsolete data will be updated, incorrect data will be corrected and data that have become redundant will be destroyed appropriately.
Data retention
Data shall be deleted when they are no longer needed for their original purpose unless they are archived in the public interest or used for scientific, historical or statistical purposes.
Data integrity and confidentiality
The general level of information security is ensured by appropriate technical and organizational measures.
