Student Union of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences METKA and Demoni ry – Student association of culture students in Metropolia UAS do not accept Metropolia’s new license agreement for Adobe’s programs. The price and conditions of the license put students to an unequal position, depending on their income level.

The unreasonably high price and the termination of the license upon graduation, even if the license is purchased until 2025, leads to unfair pricing where some students actually pay much more for their licenses on an annual basis than others. 360 euros is an unreasonably high price as a one-time payment for the 3-year license necessary for studies. Previous license was 150 euros starting on 1.9.2020 and ending 31.8.2022.

It is also mandatory to buy a license if students want to work outside of campus classes. This is not reasonable, because, for example, information and communication technology students can freely download the licenses needed for their studies to their own computer. Metropolia students receive various necessary programs for free, so that it is possible to complete their studies at home as well. The licenses of the programs do not end when the student graduates. On the contrary, programs necessary for cultural students are not offered for free or for a reasonable fee.

The student deserves the opportunity to choose the learning environment that suits them. Studying on campuses often does not allow a quiet working space. Working on campus from morning to night is not in line with the student’s well-being. In principle, it is also not possible to get to the campuses on weekends, but this requires applying for a more extensive access admittance.

It is unreasonable that those who need Adobe programs for their studies have to pay for the opportunity to choose the place and time they want to study. Metropolia’s staff gets a license free of charge if it is found to be necessary for the job description. Why hasn’t this been made possible for students? Metropolia students need the necessary licenses for their studies for free use during their studies, both at school and at home.
