Election results for the Representative Council 2026

The representative council elections for the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Student Union METKA were held between October 29 and November 5, 2025. Thirty candidates from five different lists ran for election to the Representative Council, and 25 full members and a maximum of 25 deputy members will be elected from among them.

At its meeting today, the election committee confirmed the results of the vote and calculated the candidates’ comparative figures in accordance with 91§ of the administrative regulations.

“The result of the Representative Council election is calculated on the basis of comparative figures. The number of votes received by a candidate who does not belong to an electoral alliance and/or electoral group is the candidate’s final comparative figure.

Candidates belonging to electoral alliances and groups are ranked according to the number of votes they have received. The mutual order of candidates who have received the same number of votes is determined by their election number, with the candidate with the lower number being elected first. The first candidate in an electoral alliance or electoral group is assigned a comparison figure equal to the total number of votes received by the alliance or group, the second candidate is assigned half (1/2) of that figure, the third candidate one third (1/3), and so on.

The comparison figure is rounded to three decimal places. Finally, all candidates are ranked according to the size of their final comparative figures. The mutual order of candidates with the same final comparative figure is determined by the number of votes. If this is also the same, the order is determined so that the person with the lowest candidate number is elected first, the person with the next lowest candidate number is elected next, and so on.

The candidates with the highest final comparison figures are declared elected, starting with the candidate with the highest final comparison figure, until all the seats in the representative council election have been filled. In addition, the candidates elected as deputy members in the representative council election shall be declared starting with the candidate with the highest comparative figure, so that there can be no more than as many deputy members as there are actual members.”

Based on the comparison figures calculated from the voting results, the members of the Representative Council for the 2026 term have been elected as follows:

There were 1368 student union members eligible to vote in the elections, and 198 votes were cast. The voter turnout was 14.5%, which is a significant decrease from last year’s 22.8%.

This year, the top spot in the election was shared by Eino Mervola from METKA’s Punavihreät (Red-Greens) and Nea Sorjonen from Metropolia’s social and health care students (MetSoT), who both received 18 votes. For the second year in a row, METKA’s Red-Greens received the most votes with 64.
