During the spring and summer, three new employees have started at the METKA office!

Lovely Emmi replaced our previous tutoring specialist Rami! Mira is in charge of international students and thus e.g. exchange tutoring. As the latest addition, Julia has replaced Janne as a member service specialist!

Emmi Nisumaa

Hi, my name is Emmi Nisumaa and I’m METKA’s specialist in tutoring and guidance. In other words I develop, train and guide in the tutoring field. I have started on the job in the mids of April.

I was born and raised in Hämeenlinna but I’ve lived in Järvenpää since 2016. I have Bachelor’s degree in crafts and recreation, meaning I’m professional in giving guidance in all situations in life. I’m also a trained Pilke instructor. I have worked for example in the city of Helsinki as an executive director. In the field of non-profit organisations I have gained experience for several years as a project planner and a coordinator.

I get excited about people’s wellbeing, encounters and communality. Enabling envolvement and seeing it in all it’s forms is a great interest of mine. Therefore I’m eager to see how envolvement will appear in the tutoring and student activity field.

Mira Rouvinen

Hi! My name is Mira Rouvinen, and in May 2023 I started working as a community and working life specialist at Metropolia University of Applied Sciences student union METKA. The work mainly includes planning, developing and implementing the international tutoring entity in cooperation with other METKA actors. The position is partly new, and the aim is also to develop international guidance and support the integration of international students into Finnish society and working life.

In terms of my educational background, I am almost finished with a Master of Education degree from the University of Jyväskylä, and my special interest in both studies and working life has been internationality, language and culture-aware pedagogy and intercultural communication. In previous work environments, I have mainly worked with children and families from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and most recently I worked with refugees from Ukraine.I have also been on exchange, lived and worked abroad and interested in travelling and getting to know new languages and cultures.

I want to contribute to creating a higher education institution that encourages students to become international, create new contacts and find their own direction. I look forward to my future tasks with interest and enthusiasm. You can come and talk to me in the corridors of campuses and call me or send me an email!

Julia Rantanen

Hi there! I’m Julia Rantanen, a new member service coordinator of METKA. Among other things, I take care of student union member services, maintenance of the member register and sales channels, and internal communication.

I’m from Nurmijärvi and I still live there. By education, I am a bachelor of business with a focus on advertising and corporate communication. My home school used to be Haaga-Helia in Pasila. I graduated in 2016.

It’s really great to get to work in the school world. I personally feel that I am an eternal student who is interested in constantly learning new things both at work and in my free time. This autumn’s project would be to start communication studies at an open university. In my free time, I enjoy dancing and yoga classes and ice swimming in winter.

I’m looking forward to the autumn and the student bustle!
