METKA organises several events each year. The biggest events are Fuksiaiset for new students, held twice a year, MetroSport, a sports and wellbeing event held in the autumn, METKA’s Wiikon Wappu and Kontula Appro. In addition, METKA organises, for example, voting campaigns in the run-up to elections, sitz for members, and get-togethers for alumni and tutors.
The easiest way to find all our upcoming events is directly on the homepage of our website or by following METKA on Instagram. Tickets for events are always sold via Kide.app!
Fuksiaiset
One of the biggest events is Fuksiaiset (checkpoint tour event for new students), held twice a year. During Fuksiaiset, you go round various checkpoints with your own group. The aim is to get to know your fellow students, bond as a group and have fun. Fuksiaiset always has a theme.
Wiikon Wappu (Week of Wappu)
Despite its name, METKA’s Week of Wappu in cooperation with student associations does not last for a week, but for 11 days. During Week of Wappu there are many events such as sittning or sitz (sitsit), checkpoint tours, yoga, live doughnut frying and everything in between.
METKA’s Wiikon Wappu, organised in collaboration with student associations, does not – despite its name – last a week, but several weeks! During Wiikon Wappu, there have been parties, pub crawls, yoga, live doughnut-baking and everything in between. METKA works in collaboration with 16 student associations from different fields and campuses. You can find the contact details for all the student associations here.
Anniversary
METKA’s anniversary is to celebrate METKA’a birthday. It is an academic table party where you eat well, hear speeches, sing, reward deserving student activists, tutors and teachers, and most of all, have fun. Get to know METKA’s Anniversary guide from this link. Every five years, METKA celebrates its anniversary with a more traditional Annual Ball, whilst in the intervening years it hosts a more relaxed cocktail reception.
MetroSport
Held in the autumn, MetroSport brings together students and various wellness actors. At MetroSport, you can try different sports, among other things. Find out more about the event from MetroSport’s own website!
Kontula Appro & PoroParty
Kontula Appro is one of the last student events of the year, where students tour the bars and restaurants of Kontula and East Helsinki. The evening culminates at Apollo with the PoroParty. Get to know METKA’s appro guide from this link.
Other events
Other events that have become something of a tradition include, for example, the Orientation Party, held twice a year. These parties celebrate the start of the semester and are also a chance to meet new people! There are also plenty of academic table parties, known as ‘sitsit’ or ‘sitz’, organised throughout the year. Student associations, in particular, organise several sitz each month. Get to know METKA’s sitz guide from this link.
On Independence Day, METKA has traditionally taken part in the students’ torchlight procession. METKA organises a wide range of activities for tutors throughout the year, and once a year, METKA alumni gather for the Alumni Glögi.
