Hi! My name is Sonja Leppänen and I work as a community specialist in METKA’s and Metropolia University of Applied Sciences’ student community project. The project is called Metkasti Metropoliassa Kohti Kukoistusta, and the aim is to develop student communality, provide new social activities in a higher education environment and to promote the well-being of Metropolia’s students.
I’m originally from Nurmijärvi, but I have also lived in Etelä-Savo and here and there around Finland. In Helsinki I have lived since 2008. I graduated from the University of Helsinki in 2016 with a master’s degree in folklore studies. I have also studied area and cultural studies and social psychology.
I’m interested in the customs, traditions and identities that emerge in different communities, as well as themes related to the promotion of communality, interaction and inclusion. I’m looking forward to the opportunities of the MMKK project to develop new forms of communality, cooperation and student well-being in Metropolia.
