The Student Union of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences METKA strictly condemns Russia’s inhuman and cruel acts of war towards Ukraine. It is a demonstration of Russia’s complete disregard for the sovereignty and integrity of the Ukrainian state and towards international laws.
We want to share our deepest support for all Ukrainians, and especially for those who have relatives and loved ones there. Metropolia has a lot of students and staff who are from Ukraine or have their roots there.
While the situation is extreme, we must not allow it to hit a wedge of inequality between us. This is a unilateral attack by the Russian head of state and not the cause of individual Russian citizens or people with a Russian background. It is a different matter to hold the perpetrators rightly accountable than to start repressing each other for linguistic reasons. We must not give way to racism.
The international community has shown the power of solidarity and Russia must be held accountable for its choices. Finland should further increase the supply of humanitarian and financial assistance. Each of us has the choice of making a monetary or material donation through fundraisers.
In an uncertain and distressing situation no one should be left alone and help is always available. We strongly encourage you to contact support providers if in need.
