Student Union METKA wants to make student representative titles valued and desired positions. Active student representative system is a great opportunity for Metropolia to implement its newly settled strategy, which includes a goal for Metropolia to develop into a school that produces influencers. Putting students into important roles brings students’ viewpoints into decision-making processes and helps them to grow to be future influencers.

Student union’s purpose is to prepare students for active, conscious and critical citizenship. As Metropolia wants to educate influencers, strengthening the student representative system is a common goal for both.

METKA wishes that Metropolia commits to the strengthening of student representatives roles.  Currently, some of the advisory councils are not meeting regularly and the role of student representatives is not accurately determined.

Naming the student representatives is a responsibility of the student union determined by law. Yearly, there are 78 student representative positions in Metropolia to be filled. Currently, only 46 representatives are nominated, which is 62 % of the positions overall. METKA aims to fill all positions this year. To achieve this, METKA has been working hard both on the trainings offered to the representatives and marketing the positions.

The student representative positions must be filled. With them, it is possible to crack the wall between students and the teachers. Unfortunately, this wall is sometimes very high.  At the moment, large part of the students talk about their viewpoints – good and bad – at the lunch tables and Jodel. There is a need for a channel for these messages so that they reach Metropolia as well.
