The application for METKA’s board of 2024 is now open and ends by the meeting of the representative council on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 4 PM. Get involved in building a student union, influencing student issues, and developing our Metropolia student community in an even better direction!
Duties of the Board
The Board manages the daily activities of the student union together with the employees on all of Metropolia’s campuses. The board of the student union is a full time working board and a remuneration is paid for it. The amount of the remuneration and the number of months of payment are decided by the Representative Council at the annual meeting. When applying, it is worth noting that completing studies at the same time as working in the board of METKA is challenging in terms of schedules and workload. In addition to managing the day-to-day work and responsibilities of the sectors, the board carries out long-term student advocacy, works with the student union members, organisations and other stakeholders and is responsible for implementing the action plan for the year. The Board meets approximately once a week during the semesters at the student union office or possibly remotely. In addition, the board attends weekly meetings with staff. Board work is generally done during office hours on weekdays.
Composition of the Board
The Board consists of the Chairperson, the Vice Chairperson and the members of the board. The Representative Council determines the size of the board annually in its first meeting. The student union has several sectors. Each board member has one or more sectors for which they are responsible. The board is organized after the first meeting of the Representative Council. The board independently divides the sectors between Board Members.The members of the Board have specialists to support their work. Despite the responsibility sectors, much of the board’s work is done together! All applicants are required to have good speaking and written proficiency in Finnish (mother tongue or B level). We also benefit from the speaking and written skills of English!
Applying to the board
You can apply to the board by filling in a form below by Tuesday 28.11. 4 PM. This way we can deliver the applications to the Representative Council for review in advance. The meeting of the Representative Council is on Tuesday 28.11. at 4:30 P.M., on Myyrmäki campus in the A-auditorium (MMA101), which board applicants are expected to attend. You can also stand as a candidate at the meeting. A panel discussion for applicants will also be organized at the meeting. We encourage each applicant to prepare for the panel, that identifies each applicant’s motivation, skills, and interest in that position. An invite to the Representative Council meeting will be sent to all applicants by e-mail.The persons elected to the Board must participate in orientation days, which will be organized December 11th-14th 2023. Orientation days are organized on Metropolia’s campuses.
