Board tasks
The Board runs the day-to-day operations of the Student Union together with employees on all of Metropolia’s campuses. The Student Union Board is a working board, which means that for the members of the board, the position is equivalent to a part-time job (~25h/week) and the chairperson is expected to commit full-time.
The amount of the Board’s remuneration and the number of months of payment are decided by the Representative Council at their annual meeting, but currently the remuneration is distributed by role as follows:
- Chair of the Board: €850/month for 12 months
- Vice-Chair of the Board: €550/month for 10 months
- Member of the Board: €300/month for 10 months
When applying, please note that it is challenging in terms of scheduling and workload to perform your studies at the same time as your board position. The Board meets approximately once a week at the Student Union office or remotely during the academic term, in addition to a weekly meeting with staff once a week. In addition to office work and managing the activities of their respective sectors, the Board conducts long-term student advocacy, lobbying, and represents the Student Union to the membership, other organisations and external stakeholders.
Composition of the Board
The Board of the Student Union consists of the Chairperson, the Vice-Chairperson and the members of the Board. The size of the Board is determined annually by the Council of Representatives at its organizational meeting. The different responsibilities of the Board are referred to as sectors and each member of the Board has at least one sector for which they are responsible, either alone or together with another member of the Board. However, despite the personal sectors of responsibility, most of the work of the Board is done together and as a team!
The distribution of sectors is decided independently by the Board at an organizational meeting before the start of its term. Board members are supported throughout the year by an expert in their sector and the sectors are divided as follows:
- Presidency
- Advocacy
- Anti-harassment Contact person
- Sports
- Tutoring
- Events
- Corporate collaboration
- Member services
- Community
- Internationalism
Applying to become a trustee
You can apply for the Board of Student Union or to be a Chair of the Representative Council by filling in the form below by Wednesday 13th of November at 23:59 or by arriving at the Councils organizational meeting on 14th of November 2024 at 17:00 on the Myllypuro campus in room MPA1010 and standing for election there. The organizational meeting will be held as on-site implementation with a panel discussion for candidates, so candidates for the Board are advised to reserve time for this and attend the meeting. We also encourage all applicants to prepare for the panel, which will assess their motivation, skills and genuine interest in applying for the post.
Please also note that it its necessary to speak and understand fluent Finnish in order to work on the METKAs board.
